In August 2023 the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences provided a submission to the Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Sport – Inquiry into diabetes in Australia.

AAHMS welcomes this important inquiry that could help improve the health and wellbeing of the Australian community by making recommendations to reduce the incidence of diabetes and improve quality of life for those living with the condition.

Decreasing the incidence of diabetes in Australia will lead to downstream social and economic benefits.

A coordinated, cross-sector response to develop and implement policy strategies is required to alter the trajectory of diabetes in the community.

We strongly support this important initiative and stand ready to assist the Government where needed.
