In December 2022, the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences provided a joint submission with the Australian Academy of Science to the NHMRC Australian Health Ethics Committee’s limited review of the Ethical guidelines on the use of Assisted Reproductive Technology in clinical practice and research (ART Guidelines).

This review was in response to the introduction of legislation (The Mitochondrial Donation Law Reform (Maeve’s Law) Act 2022) to permit mitochondrial donation in Australia, for which AAHMS and AAS had previously provided input.

For this consultation submission, AAHMS and AAS received contributions from multiple experts which were used to answer the questions provided by the Australian Human Ethics Committee. The consultation questions and answers can be downloaded below.
