Fellows inducted into the Australian Academy of Science

Four AAHMS Fellows are among the 22 Australian scientists elected to the Fellowship of the Australian Academy of Science for 2022.

The Academy warmly congratulates Professor Jonathan Carapetis AM FAA FAHMS, Professor Michelle Haber AM FAA FAHMS, Professor Timothy Hughes FAA FAHMS and Professor Sarah Medland OAM FAA FASSA FAHMS on this tremendous achievement, which recognises their expertise in psychiatric genetics, haematology, childhood cancer and paediatrics.

Each year, Fellows of the Academy of Science recognise outstanding peers in the scientific community for their ground-breaking research and ongoing contributions.

  • Professor Carapetis is Director of the Telethon Kids Institute, a paediatrician and infection diseases specialist.
  • Professor Haber is Executive Director of the Children’s Cancer Institute, and a world leader in the field of childhood cancer research.
  • Professor Hughes is the Precision Medicine Theme leader at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute, and an international expert in the biology and treatment of leukemia.
  • Professor Medland is the Senior Principal Research Fellow and Head of Psychiatric Genetics at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, where her work bridges Genetics, Psychology, Neuro-Imaging and Applied Statistics with a focus on understanding the genetic and environmental contributions to human behaviour and disease.
