Submission on ARC’s National Competitive Grants Program

The Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (AAHMS) submitted a response to the Australian Research Council’s (ARC) Policy Review of the National Competitive Grants Program (NCGP) in April 2025.

Our submission emphasised the need for:

  • A balanced approach to research funding across the pipeline.
  • Improved support for early-career researchers.
  • Refined intellectual property frameworks.

Academy CEO Ms Catherine Luckin said that the Academy’s submission to the Policy Review of the NCGP “underscores the importance of protecting the entire research pipeline by ensuring that the NCGP continues to support both curiosity-driven and priority-driven research across the disciplines.”

“This balanced approach is vital for fostering innovation and addressing complex challenges across education, society, health, technology and more,” Ms Luckin added.
