Wayne Tilley is internationally recognised for understanding how sex hormones act via nuclear receptors to regulate gene programs governing cellular behaviour in males and females. He has made fundamental discoveries regarding androgen receptor (AR) structure and function, including cloning the AR gene, revealing its oncogenic role in prostate cancer and its tumour suppressor role in breast cancer, thereby establishing AR as a versatile therapeutic target. He has served the research community for more than 30 years, including President ASMR and a Director NBCF. A passionate communicator and networker, he established the international PacRim breast and prostate cancer meeting series (2003-current).
