Citation on Election
Prue Hart, a photobiologist and immunologist, has led landmark research for four decades into cytokine-mediated regulation of inflammatory responses and the effects on ultraviolet radiation (as in sunlight) on human immune functioning. Her work culminated in a world-first, NHMRC-funded clinical trial of UVB-phototherapy in early multiple sclerosis. She is one of the leaders of a growing group of scientists and clinicians who espouse greater skin exposure to non-burning sunlight for general human health and homeostasis. Her publication record includes 218 peer-reviewed papers with >10,250 citations (Scopus h-index=54). She was the Burnet Medallist and Orator (ANZ Society for Immunology) in 2022.
