Marco Herold is an internationally recognised leader in the application of genome engineering to investigate the pathophysiology of human disease. Using cutting-edge CRISPR tools developed in his lab, he has uncovered key roles for cell death pathways in cancer and created powerful preclinical models of human cancer. These tools enabled his team to identify novel tumour drivers and therapy resistance genes, and facilitated the translation of novel anti-cancer drugs into clinical trials. His CRISPR tools have been used by >500 laboratories globally. His leadership of ONJCRI has seen new innovative research platforms established and notably expanding into clinical trials.
