Professor Jacqueline Center is a leading researcher in osteoporosis and fracture epidemiology. As principal investigator of the Dubbo Osteoporosis Epidemiology Study, the world’s longest-running study of osteoporosis in men and women, she was the first to highlight the increased risks of further fractures and premature death following an initial fracture. Through major international collaborations, she established the significance of these risks for clinical care and helped develop the concept of ‘imminent fracture risk’. Her research has shaped national and international guidelines for fracture management and contributed to the introduction of Fracture Liaison Services to prevent further fractures.
