Professor King is a world leader in the field of venom-based drug discovery. He has used animal venoms to identify new drug targets, develop intraoperative imaging agents, and discover novel therapeutics. His lab has uncovered peptide-drug leads for the treatment of stroke, epilepsy, chronic pain, and myocardial infarction. He has founded three biotech companies, including Infensa Bioscience, an Australian biotech company that is developing neuroprotective agents and cardioprotective drugs for a wide range of applications including stroke, myocardial infarction, and heart transplantation. In 2023, Professor King received the Prime Minister’s Prize for Innovation for his groundbreaking translational research.
