Professor Porrello FISHR is Director of Stem Cell Medicine, Co-Director of the Melbourne Centre for Cardiovascular Genomics and Regenerative Medicine, and Head of the Heart Regeneration Group at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. He is internationally recognized as a leader in cardiac regeneration biology, cardiovascular gene regulation and as a pioneer of pluripotent stem cell technologies for disease modelling, drug discovery and regenerative medicine. Most notably, Professor Porrello led seminal studies that revealed a previously unappreciated regenerative capacity of the neonatal mammalian heart, which shifted global efforts in the field towards the development of cardiac rejuvenation strategies for heart repair.
