Professor Fabienne Mackay is an internationally renowned immunologist who has published over 138 highly cited research articles and reviews. Her h-index is 56 (12,396 citations). In 2012, she was awarded the Thomson Reuters Citation and innovation Award, and in 2014 a Trophy from the French ministry of foreign affairs for outstanding achievement in research and education as an expatriate. One of her many contributions has been the discovery of BAFF/BLyS as a key factor driving lupus, a breakthrough discovery which led to the development of a now FDA-approved BAFF inhibitor: the first new treatment for lupus in over 50 years.
