The Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences submitted a response to the Australian Government’s Strategic Examination of Research and Development (SERD) in April 2025.

Our submission highlighted the need for:

• A coordinated, whole-of-government R&D strategy that embeds health and medical research as a national priority.
• Stronger alignment across funding programs and portfolios through a central coordinating body.
• A system that supports the full pipeline of research — from discovery to commercialisation.
• A secure, diverse, and industry-connected research workforce to meet future needs.
