Seven Academy Fellows recognised in Queen’s Birthday Honours

We are delighted that seven of our Fellows have been recognised in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours List for their valuable contributions to Australian health and medical sciences, including two members of our Council, Professor David Mackey AO FAHMS and Professor Christina Mitchell AO FAHMS.

The Academy warmly congratulates all seven Fellows, who were recognised as follows:

Officer of the Order of Australia (AO)

  • Professor Christine Kilpatrick AO FAHMS – for her distinguished service to medicine through senior administrative roles, to the promotion of quality in health care, and to neurology
  • Professor David Mackey AO FAHMS – for his distinguished service to medicine, and to medical education, in the field of ophthalmology, as a clinician-scientist and academic
  • Professor Christina Mitchell AO FAHMS – for her distinguished service to medicine in the field of haematology, to medical education and research, and to academic leadership
  • Professor Linda Richards AO FAA FAHMS – for her distinguished service to medical research and education in the field of developmental neurobiology, and to community engagement in science
  • Professor Mark von Itzstein AO FAA FAHMS – for his distinguished service to medical research and education in the field of structural biology and glycochemistry, and as a mentor

Member of the Order of Australia (AM)

  • Professor Jacob George AM FAHMS – for his significant service to medicine as a gastroenterologist and hepatologist
  • Professor Jayashri Kulkarni AM FAHMS – for her significant service to medicine in the field of psychiatry
