AAHMS Fellows elected to Australian Academy of Science

AAHMS Fellows elected to Australian Academy of Science

We are delighted to congratulate our Fellows, Professor Maria Makrides FAA FAHMS and Professor Warren Alexander FAA FAHMS, who have been elected as Fellows of the Australian Academy of Science this week.

Professor Makrides is our State Branch Chair for South Australia and the Northern Territory, and also sits on our Council. Her research into maternal-infant nutrition looks to improve the cognition, growth and immune development of children, and has had global impacts on food regulation and composition. Professor Makrides is Theme Leader for Healthy Mothers, Babies and Children and the South Australia Health and Medical Research Institute.

Professor Alexander is Joint Head of the Cancer and Haematology Division at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research. His work has led to profound, enduring and internationally recognised new discoveries in molecular haematology, particularly in the regulation of platelets and blood stem cells.

We warmly congratulate both Fellows on this tremendous achievement.
